Hawaiian Week
Monday, July 24th, 2006 by Ms. AmberYay for nice weather up at camp! This week is Hawaiian week, and for just one week we are pretending that Camp Tannadoonah has been relocated to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Our CITs (Counselors in Training), did a great job decorating the dining hall in a Hawaiian theme, and are in charge of planning all of the week’s activities. This week we have 9 CITs, all of whom have been attending Camp Tannadoonah for many years. On Monday we visited YMCA Camp Eberhart with the CIT leader and the 9 CITs. It was really fun to compare the camps, and see what kinds of fun programs other camps have that we could add. We decided that an amphitheatre is a definite priority, and many of the CITs want to plan a low ropes team-building course for next summer! On Tuesday we plan to visit Camp Shawadasee, a Girl Scout camp about 30 minutes away.
On Sunday night we played Capture the Flag in the Sports and Games Field. The first game lasted nearly 45 minutes. When that game was over we started again, thinking that we would have to cut it short, but the second game lasted less than 5 minutes! Monday night we played One Way Street, with the CITs acting as Police Officers and game coordinators. The counselors had a great time play-acting and pretending to be campers!
We have a total of 49 campers this week, many of whom are returning for their 2nd or 3rd week of camp! There are still openings for the final two weeks of camp, so get those registrations in soon! Next week is Harry Potter week, and the last week is Wild West week.
