We’re really excited about this upcoming summer. We are currently working on hiring staff and planning for new activities and programs at camp. We still have job openings, so if you know someone who is interested in working at camp, visit jobs.campfireusarbc.org to fill out an application.
There are a few new things we’re trying this year that I think will make camp an even better experience for our campers. For the first time, we plan to have junior counselors on our staff. Each cabin will have two senior counselors, and one junior counselor. This will mean more supervision for our campers, and better training for all of our young, future staff members!
We have changed the swimming and boating tests to make it easier for campers to really show their swimming skills. In the past campers were assigned a colored wrist band based on their performance of swimming strokes in accordance with the American Red Cross Swimming Standards. This year, intermediate wrist bands will be based on ability to swim two lengths of the waterfront pier (25 meters, one on front and one on back), and advanced wrist bands will require an additional 25 meter length. Campers who earn either an intermediate or advanced wrist band will be qualified to take boating classes. Campers who do not earn a wristband can still participate in boating by passing the old boating test, which requires treading water for 10 minutes. We made this change based on feedback from parents and campers. Campers who take swimming lessons will still be tested on their swimming strokes to assign them to the proper class.
Come back soon to read more about the improvements and changes we are making at Tannadoonah!
