Camp Tannadoonah Journal

Tomorrow (Sunday, May 27th) is our annual Open House from noon to four pm.  If you are thinking about attending camp (or sending your kids) for the first time, this is a really great opportunity to come up and visit.  Meet some our staff, take a tour of camp, and even try out some of our activities.  We will have a craft project, a drama activity, and (if it’s not raining) a chance to try archery!  There will also be free food, and a chance to buy some Camp Tannadoonah apparel and other merchandise.

We’re just about ready to open camp for the summer.  We have had many work days, and things are starting to look great!  Our amphitheatre is almost finished (see photos).  Mr. Tom and Mr. Bernie plan to add a railing around the stage, and we’ll dig out a fire pit once that is done.  We’re really excited to complete this project, because it will give us a great gathering place, and location for sing every day, and a great venue for our end-of-the-week Council Fires.  Plus, Drama will have a stage for their daily activities!

Our 100 Salt Camp Fire Club is also working on a great new project up at camp.  This weekend they began construction on our brand new Murphy Sports Shed! It will have storage space for all of the sports and games equipment, as well as a seating area with an awning so that campers can sit in the shade while watching tennis matches or other sporting events at camp.

We will have our first group of campers up at camp starting Monday, June 4th.  These campers are part of a day camp program that will be the result of a partnership between Camp Tannadoonah and the Elkhart (IN) YMCA.  The following week (June 10th) we will have a week-long overnight group using the camp, and then our Camp Tannadoonah summer staff will arrive for the official start of camp!

We still have spaces available in many of our sessions, so check out the weeks and register today! We just found out that we will be able to order copies of the 7th Harry Potter Book for everyone who attends camp during Harry Potter week!  The new book comes out on the last day of that session, and we’ll have a big costume party on Friday night, and then campers will be able to get their copy of the new book before they head home on Saturday!  Books will cost approximately $25 each.  We’re so excited to have this great opportunity!!  Hope to see you at camp!
