Camp is a hot place to be in the summer. Without air conditioning (it’s camp, after all!) we have to find ways to keep cool. As temperatures creep into the high 90s this week, we’ve done a few things to help campers (and staff) forget to sweat.
1. Waterfront
We’ve adapted games such as One Way Street to work at the waterfront. Campers played games in the water, and punishments were modified to involve the lake as much as possible. Birch Lake is a cool, clean lake - and the campers were grateful.
2. Two waters
Campers have to drink two glasses of water before they can get a glass of milk or juice. The nurses have been keeping a close eye on the kids, making sure nobody overheats.
3. More water games
We’ve played in the sprinkler. Some of the staff have been wielding squirt guns. And on Sunday evening, we had a game of Water Balloon Battleship (think Battleship the game, but life-sized on a volleyball court and with water balloons).
4. More waterfront
We’ll put up with the 97 steps just for a few minutes in the lake. The staff cannon ball contest was a hit once again.
5. Frozen treats
Ms. Peggy and her kitchen staff discovered a recipe for some frozen popsicles that were a tremendous success. Made from a mix of berry blue gelatin and blue fruit drink, these tasty treats caused a lot of blue tongues.
One last note: This week is Harry Potter week. And in honor of Harry’s Birthday on Monday, we had decorate-your-own birthday cake. We can’t wait for the costume party on Friday!
